Anxiety as a reality for youth in Serbia
For the second year in a row, the Hello Twenties platform, under the patronage of the pharmaceutical company Galenika, conducted a national survey on the perception of health and healthy habits among young people in Serbia. Although most respondents have a positive attitude toward psychotherapy, only 21% have actually had the experience of going to therapy.

The results of the research showed that more than 80% of those surveyed believe that psychotherapy can significantly help people, while skepticism still exists among a smaller percentage of young people, mostly younger men from rural areas. These insights indicate that mental health is no longer a taboo topic and that going to therapy is increasingly seen not as a sign of disorder, but rather as an ongoing effort to improve one’s overall health.

Generation Z under constant pressure

Although they are aware of the need to take care of their mental health, young people are often unsure how to do so. Social media offers a wealth of content, but at the same time, contributes to increased alienation and feelings of insecurity. Constant comparisons and self-questioning in an effort to meet external expectations are also present among youth. All of this continues to sustain and reinforce anxiety as a widespread feeling among young people in Serbia.

“I think anxiety is one of the biggest problems young people face. I also believe that mild depression, alienation, and maybe a lack of empathy are major issues in society today.” (Male, 26–30 years old)
