When discussing the future of media, big words and even bigger expectations are often invoked. The Journalism, Media & Technology Trends and Predictions 2026 report, published by the Reuters Institute, takes the opposite approach. Instead of bold forecasts, it offers a grounded look at how today’s media leaders are thinking. And it is a notably sober assessment.
Authored by Nic Newman, the report is based on a survey of 280 editors and media executives from 51 countries. Their responses reflect not optimism, but adaptation to a world in which traditional models are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain.

Data from Chartbeat, analyzed for the report across a sample of more than 2,500 websites, shows that Google Search traffic has already fallen by 33% globally.
Another blow is coming from Google Discover, a key channel in markets with strong Android penetration, which has recorded a 21% decline.
